Working under the wrong light is one of the most common — and most fixable — causes of eye strain and afternoon fatigue at a home desk. The goal is to avoid both a too-dim room and a single harsh point source.
Position a task lamp so light falls onto your work surface from the side opposite your writing hand, which minimises shadows cast by your hand and pen. Avoid placing a lamp directly behind your monitor, since the contrast between a bright light and a dark screen forces your eyes to constantly readjust.
For colour temperature, aim for a cooler, more neutral white (around 4000K) during focused work hours — it reads as more alert and productive than the warm, cosy tones better suited to living and bedroom spaces.
