Nothing undermines a beautifully designed bathroom faster than bad vanity lighting. Overhead-only lighting casts shadows under the eyes, chin and nose — exactly where you don't want them when applying makeup or shaving.
The fix is simple: mount sconces at eye level, on either side of the mirror, roughly 28–36 inches apart depending on mirror width. This cross-lighting eliminates shadows far more effectively than a single fixture above the mirror ever can.
Look for sconces rated for damp locations, and pick a warm white bulb (around 2700K–3000K) so skin tones look natural rather than clinical. Frosted or fluted glass shades are ideal here since they soften the light without dimming it.
